Close to Capital Hamilton

Astwood Cove is a small secluded beach located on the southwest coast of Bermuda, in Warwick Parish, two and a half miles south of the capital city of Hamilton. Astwood Cove Beach Bermuda is backed by cliffs and one must hike down a fairly steep path in order to reach the beach. Due largely to the difficulty in accessing it, the cove is not particularly popular and rarely crowded. Visitors frequently have the beach to themselves.

The rocks of Astwood Cove are full of longtail bird nests and the tropical birds can also be seen frequently swooping through the sky. While swimming and snorkeling are enjoyable at Astwood Cove, they are best left to more advanced swimmers as the water can get very rough and there are many rocks to navigate around. Therefore, swimming and snorkeling at Astwood Cove is not recommended for children. There are no lifeguards stationed at Astwood Cove.

Enjoy Outdoor Activities around Astwood Cove Beach Bermuda

Situated above the beach is Astwood Park with restroom facilities, picnic tables, and parking spaces. There are also fun nature trails available in the park. Astwood Park is large and a favorite venue in Bermuda for outdoor weddings. To have a wedding ceremony at Astwood Park, obtain a permit from the Department of Parks. Currently, permits cost $25. Permits should be obtained well in advance, especially for a summer wedding, as bookings fill up fast. If more than 50 guests are expected to be in attendance, a refundable deposit must be made.

The Belmont Hills Golf Club and Sessions House are attractions that are within walking distance or a short cab ride of Astwood Cove. Sessions House is the seat of Bermuda’s government and is only open to the public on Mondays. Call ahead of time for price of admission. In addition, the bustling capital city of Hamilton is just two and a half miles away, so can be easily reached by taxi.

There are a few restaurants located less than a mile from Astwood Cove so could be walked to or reached by taxi if one prefers. One of the closest restaurants is Blu Bar and Grill which serves American cuisine. They also specialize in steak and seafood dishes.

From nearest to furthest away, these include the Longtail Cliffs Apartments, Blue Horizons, Surf Side Beach Club, Granaway Guest House & Cottages, Fourways Inn & Cottages, Watercolours, Coral Beach and Tennis Club, Wharf Executive Suites Hotel, Salt Kettle House, and Elbow Beach Club Resort.

Surf Side Beach Club is a mid-size resort near Astwood Cove with its own private beach. It is located less than a mile away from Astwood Cove and can be easily walked to. It has 65 guestrooms with varying amenities depending on a guest’s choice of room. It also has a restaurant and a bar. If looking for more intimate accommodations, Granaway Guest House & Cottages is also located within walking distance of Astwood Cove and has just 10 units. This manor house was built in the 1700s, but each guestroom has a private bath.
